Comparing The CPUs
The speed of CPUs depends on various factors. It is difficult to conclude which CPU is faster without specifying the exact models we compare.
The Computer We Use
The speed of our computer isn’t influenced solely by the speed of the CPU it uses. There are many other factors, such as the GPU, the Memory, the Hard disk, the OS, and the entire computer structure. In addition, the application we execute might also have some influence. It is certainly possible that when comparing two computers, specific applications will run faster on one computer while others will run faster on another computer.
MacBook Performance
If you are a Mac user, you might find it interesting to compare the performance of various Mac models. There are more than a few websites that will allow you to compare different models with each other. One of them is https://browser.geekbench.com/mac-benchmarks.
Which Computer to Buy
Students that consider taking the courses I deliver, might ask themselves which computer to buy. In most cases, a simple laptop will do the job. However, there are specific programming languages and specific domains for which the IDEs might require more computing power (such as Android, Kotlin, Scala, and Swift). In these cases, my recommendation is to explore the possibilities to purchase a stronger computer.
